„D’ya
really think you can manage this?”
“Yeah! Of
course! Don’t worry! I’m more grown up than I look like!”
Jim Hawkins
stood in the hall of the Interstellar Academy. It was the first day of his very
first summer vacations since he attended this kinda school! Most of the
students were driving home for the three weeks they got. It’s a normal thing,
he’d always thought. They only got three weeks to visit their families. The
other eight weeks they had to stay at school to do the horrible loads of
homework they got from their (in fact) not humane teachers. And the hall was
filled with baggage, suitcases, bags and talking students who were happy to get
a few days for themselves. Usually Jim liked this time very much. It had such a
spirit. He knew some shorter vacations, but these couldn’t be compared with
anything else. The only mess on this whole thing was he couldn’t drive home
this time. He called his mom at their hostel, the “Benbow Inn”, but she said
she had a lot of work at the moment. The summer season started right now and
she had so many guests that she didn’t need Jim at home. “Okay! Cool!” he
thought at first, but then he noticed that this might be the most boring
holidays he’d ever have. The reason for this was Dolphy! She was his girlfriend
for a few months. He really liked her. He liked her smile, her way of talking
and the time they spend together. But Dolphy was driving home these holidays.
Jim stood
next to her, secretly hoping she wouldn’t go. But she was ready to get in the
Ship that would take the students to their hometown.
“You really
think you can do this? I mean this could be hard!” Jim asked again.
Dolphy
rolled her eyes. “Jim! I’ll just drive home! What shall be hard on this?” she
asked.
“Well… maybe
your parents are stressed and they won’t take a glance at you!” he said.
“They took
some free days just for me!”
“Or… your
brother! Maybe he’ll get on your nerves! This can be hard!”
“He always
gets on my nerves. I got use to this!”
“Well, then
maybe………. Uh! I dunno! Do I have a chance to change your
mind?” he looked at her with the biggest puppy eyes he could do.
Dolphy had
to laugh. “Erm…No!”
The Ship
arrived at the Academy and all students were meant to get in. Dolphy pulled her
case. She looked at Jim again. He noticed that and fell into his puppy look
again.
“Aww! Poor
sweetie! But I’ll be back soon! These are just three weeks. You’ll see, they’re
over as soon as you can say Space pirate!” she smiled.
She hugged
Jim again and got into the Ship. He saw her waving on board of this huge thing,
but he also saw how the distances between them got higher and higher. As he
almost couldn’t see her, he started to go back to his room.
How quiet
the Academy was. Just a few Students were still here. He walked the long
corridor to the elevators, which brought every student in the floor his room
was situated. He drove to the seventh floor. His room was lying in here. By the
way it was also Dolphy’s room. They lived together since the third week Jim attended
the Academy. He heard his steps on the ground and resound on the walls.
“Mr.
Hawkins! Please wait a moment!”
Jim heard
that voice and turned around. Mr. Pew – the principal- was a big man. He looked
shark like, but his character was that of a friendly dolphin. He had a big
tummy and he always wore too big shoes. He looked really funny with them. Just
like a clown with his monstrous feet.
“Yeah
Sir?!” Jim asked.
“Jim, my
dear lad, just listen to me. We’ve got a new student just for the twelve weeks
of summer vacations. He made some problems at his planet and so his brother
thought it would be the best to send him to a school for some weeks on which he
will learn a little behaviour! Can ya follow me?” he asked.
Jim nodded.
“Anyway I
hoped you could take care of him. Just a little bit. He should learn the rules
at school in the time when the other students are gone. And when they’re back,
he can take part on the summer lessons and the homework process” he explained.
“Erm… Sir!
But I am not the only one here. I mean we often got new students. Why do I have
to care for him?” That was horrible. Jim wanted to relax this time, not to take
care of a crazy teenager who wasn’t able to control his temper.
“I thought
you would be the right one. Y’know, this boy don’t have a real family. His
parents were dying while there was an attack of their planet. The only one who
survived was his brother and he’s now the only one he has. I thought because
you lost your father in early years, you would understand how he feels. Please
take care of him. Just the three weeks till school starts again!”
“Erm… all
right! I’ll do!” Jim nodded.
“Really?
Okay, that’s great! Thank you my lad!” The principal thanked Jim again, turned
around and walked away. But suddenly he stopped again.
“Oh, by the
way… the boy needed a room. You had one bed left, because all rooms are tripled
and you just live with this girl, don’t you? Anyway, I gave him your room.
Think he’s already there!” And with these words he walked away.
“What?” Jim
couldn’t believe this. It wasn’t enough to take care of someone you don’t know
and to be more exactly you don’t wanna know, but now he was in his room.
“Great
beginning of the holidays!” Jim thought.
He opened
his door. A big case lay in the middle of the room. But no one was here. Jim
closed the door behind himself.
“Hello?” he
yelled. No answer. HE looked around. The window was open. He knew that there
was a big tree next to the window. You could easily climb to it. Jim wanted to
take a look. Maybe this crazy teen was there. But he felt over a couple of
hockey sticks on the ground.
“Arrgh!
What the hell is this?” he looked at the sticks. “This can’t happen” he
thought.
He looked
at the case. There was a little name sign on it. Jim read it and stood up. He
walked to the window.
“Okay
NOSEDIVE FLASHBLADE! Now you’re playing in my league!” he said.
